KEGG   ENZYME: 1.14.14.77
Entry
EC 1.14.14.77               Enzyme
Name
phenylacetonitrile alpha-monooxygenase;
CYP3201B1 (gene name)
Class
Oxidoreductases;
Acting on paired donors, with incorporation or reduction of molecular oxygen;
With reduced flavin or flavoprotein as one donor, and incorporation of one atom of oxygen into the other donor
Sysname
phenylacetonitrile,[reduced NADPH---hemoprotein reductase]:oxygen oxidoreductase [(R)-mandelonitrile-forming]
Reaction(IUBMB)
phenylacetonitrile + [reduced NADPH---hemoprotein reductase] + O2 = (R)-mandelonitrile + [oxidized NADPH---hemoprotein reductase] + H2O [RN:R11733]
Reaction(KEGG)
R11733
Substrate
phenylacetonitrile [CPD:C16074];
[reduced NADPH---hemoprotein reductase] [CPD:C03024];
O2 [CPD:C00007]
Product
(R)-mandelonitrile [CPD:C00561];
[oxidized NADPH---hemoprotein reductase] [CPD:C03161];
H2O [CPD:C00001]
Comment
The enzyme has been characterized from the cyanogenic millipede Chamberlinius hualienensis. Unlike plant enzymes that can catalyse this reaction (EC 1.14.14.44, phenylacetaldehyde oxime monooxygenase), this enzyme cannot act on phenylacetaldehyde oximes. It can accept (4-hydroxyphenyl)acetonitrile, (2-methylphenyl)acetonitrile, and (3-methylphenyl)acetonitrile as substrates at a lower rate.
