KEGG   ENZYME: 1.8.1.21
Entry
EC 1.8.1.21                 Enzyme
Name
dissimilatory dimethyldisulfide reductase
Class
Oxidoreductases;
Acting on a sulfur group of donors;
With NAD+ or NADP+ as acceptor
Sysname
methanethiol:NAD+ oxidoreductase (dimethyl disulfide-forming)
Reaction(IUBMB)
2 methanethiol + NAD+ = dimethyl disulfide + NADH + H+ [RN:R12457]
Reaction(KEGG)
R12457
Substrate
methanethiol [CPD:C00409];
NAD+ [CPD:C00003]
Product
dimethyl disulfide [CPD:C08371];
NADH [CPD:C00004];
H+ [CPD:C00080]
Comment
The enzyme's activity has been demonstrated in the bacterium Thiobacillus thioparus E6. The methanethiol formed is eventually oxidized to sulfate and carbon dioxide, and the latter assimilated for autotrophic growth.
