Entry
EC 2.3.3.19                 Enzyme
Name
2-phosphonomethylmalate synthase;
2-phosphinomethylmalic acid synthase;
PMM synthase
Class
Transferases;
Acyltransferases;
Acyl groups converted into alkyl groups on transfer
Sysname
acetyl-CoA:3-phosphonopyruvate C-acetyltransferase
Reaction(IUBMB)
acetyl-CoA + H2O + 3-phosphonopyruvate = (R)-2-(phosphonomethyl)malate + CoA [RN:R11708]
Reaction(KEGG)
R11708
Substrate
acetyl-CoA [CPD:C00024];
H2O [CPD:C00001];
3-phosphonopyruvate [CPD:C02798]
Product
(R)-2-(phosphonomethyl)malate [CPD:C21613];
CoA [CPD:C00010]
Comment
The enzyme, isolated from several Streptomyces species, participate in the biosynthesis of certain phosphonate antibiotics. The enzyme is analogous to EC 2.3.3.1 (Si)-citrate synthase.
