KEGG   ENZYME: 2.5.1.153
Entry
EC 2.5.1.153                Enzyme
Name
adenosine tuberculosinyltransferase;
Rv3378c (locus name)
Class
Transferases;
Transferring alkyl or aryl groups, other than methyl groups;
Transferring alkyl or aryl groups, other than methyl groups (only sub-subclass identified to date)
Sysname
tuberculosinyl-diphosphate:adenosine tuberculosinyltransferase
Reaction(IUBMB)
tuberculosinyl diphosphate + adenosine = 1-tuberculosinyladenosine + diphosphate [RN:R12669]
Reaction(KEGG)
R12669
Substrate
tuberculosinyl diphosphate [CPD:C19836];
adenosine [CPD:C00212]
Product
1-tuberculosinyladenosine [CPD:C22319];
diphosphate [CPD:C00013]
Comment
The enzyme, characterized from the bacterial pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis, produces 1-tuberculosinyladenosine, an unusual terpene nucleoside that acts as a phagolysosome disruptor by neutralizing the pH, resulting in swelling of the lysosome and obliteration of its multilamellar structure.
History
EC 2.5.1.153 created 2011 as EC 3.1.7.8 and EC 3.1.7.9, transferred 2020 to EC 2.5.1.153
