KEGG   ENZYME: 2.8.3.23
Entry
EC 2.8.3.23                 Enzyme
Name
caffeate CoA-transferase;
CarA
Class
Transferases;
Transferring sulfur-containing groups;
CoA-transferases
Sysname
3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)propanoyl-CoA:(2E)-3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)prop-2-enoate CoA-transferase
Reaction(IUBMB)
3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)propanoyl-CoA + (2E)-3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)prop-2-enoate = 3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)propanoate + (2E)-3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)prop-2-enoyl-CoA [RN:R11206]
Reaction(KEGG)
R11206
Substrate
3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)propanoyl-CoA [CPD:C21175];
(2E)-3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)prop-2-enoate [CPD:C01197]
Product
3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)propanoate [CPD:C10447];
(2E)-3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)prop-2-enoyl-CoA [CPD:C00323]
Comment
The enzyme, isolated from the bacterium Acetobacterium woodii, catalyses an energy-saving CoA loop for caffeate activation. In addition to caffeate, the enzyme can utilize 4-coumarate or ferulate as CoA acceptor.
