KEGG   ENZYME: 3.1.4.61
Entry
EC 3.1.4.61                 Enzyme
Name
cyclic 2,3-diphosphoglycerate hydrolase
Class
Hydrolases;
Acting on ester bonds;
Phosphoric-diester hydrolases
Sysname
cyclic 2,3-diphosphoglycerate phosphohydrolyase
Reaction(IUBMB)
cyclic 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate + H2O = 2,3-diphosphoglycerate [RN:R12749]
Reaction(KEGG)
R12749
Substrate
cyclic 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate [CPD:C06189];
H2O [CPD:C00001]
Product
2,3-diphosphoglycerate [CPD:C03339]
Comment
The enzyme degrades cyclic 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate, a thermoprotectant that is produced by certain archaeal genera. Two different enzymes that catalyse this activity, one soluble and one membrane-bound, have been characterized from the archaeon Methanothermobacter thermautotrophicus.
