KEGG   ENZYME: 3.2.1.203
Entry
EC 3.2.1.203                Enzyme
Name
carboxymethylcellulase;
CMCase
Class
Hydrolases;
Glycosylases;
Glycosidases, i.e. enzymes that hydrolyse O- and S-glycosyl compounds
Sysname
4-beta-D-(carboxymethyl)glucan 4-(carboxymethyl)glucanohydrolase
Reaction(IUBMB)
Endohydrolysis of (1->4)-beta-D-glucosidic linkages in (carboxymethyl)cellulose.
Comment
The enzyme from the acidophilic bacterium Alicyclobacillus acidocaldarius is an endo-cleaving hydrolase that cleaves beta(1->4)-linked residues. However, it is specific for (carboxymethyl)cellulose and does not act on cellulosic substrates such as avicel.
