Comment
The enzyme participates in a glutathione-mediated detoxification pathway found in plants, algae, fungi, and some bacteria. The enzymes from the plant Arabidopsis thaliana and the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae also catalyse the activity of EC 2.3.2.15, glutathione gamma-glutamylcysteinyltransferase (phytochelatin synthase).
