KEGG   ENZYME: 3.5.1.123
Entry
EC 3.5.1.123                Enzyme
Name
gamma-glutamylanilide hydrolase;
atdA2 (gene name)
Class
Hydrolases;
Acting on carbon-nitrogen bonds, other than peptide bonds;
In linear amides
Sysname
N5-phenyl-L-glutamine amidohydrolase
Reaction(IUBMB)
N5-phenyl-L-glutamine + H2O = L-glutamate + aniline [RN:R11561]
Reaction(KEGG)
R11561
Substrate
N5-phenyl-L-glutamine [CPD:C20843];
H2O [CPD:C00001]
Product
L-glutamate [CPD:C00025];
aniline [CPD:C00292]
Comment
The enzyme, characterized from the bacterium Acinetobacter sp. YAA, catalyses the opposite reaction from that catalysed by EC 6.3.1.18, gamma-glutamylanilide synthase, which is part of an aniline degradation pathway. Its purpose is likely to maintain a low concentration of N5-phenyl-L-glutamine, which is potentially toxic.
