KEGG   ENZYME: 4.1.1.122
Entry
EC 4.1.1.122                Enzyme
Name
L-cysteate decarboxylase;
CAD
Class
Lyases;
Carbon-carbon lyases;
Carboxy-lyases
Sysname
L-cysteate carboxy-lyase (taurine-forming)
Reaction(IUBMB)
L-cysteate = taurine + CO2 [RN:R01682]
Reaction(KEGG)
R01682
Substrate
L-cysteate [CPD:C00506]
Product
taurine [CPD:C00245];
CO2 [CPD:C00011]
Comment
Requires pyridoxal 5'-phosphate. The enzyme, characterized from chicken, is specific for L-cysteate and has poor activity with 3-sulfino-L-alanine. cf. EC 4.1.1.29, sulfinoalanine decarboxylase.
