Name
cyclopenase;
asqI (gene name)
Class
Lyases;
Carbon-carbon lyases;
Other carbon-carbon lyases
Sysname
(-)-cyclopenine methyl-isocyanate lyase (viridicatin-forming)
Reaction(IUBMB)
(-)-cyclopenine = viridicatin + methyl isocyanate [RN:R13135]
Reaction(KEGG)
R13135
Substrate
(-)-cyclopenine [CPD:C22623]
Product
viridicatin [CPD:C22644];
methyl isocyanate [CPD:C22645]
Comment
This fungal enzyme catalyses a key reaction in the biosynthesis of quinolone compounds, converting the benzodiazepine structure into a quinolone structure. The enzyme is also active with (-)-4'-methoxycyclopenine.
