KEGG   ENZYME: 4.2.3.82
Entry
EC 4.2.3.82                 Enzyme
Name
alpha-santalene synthase
Class
Lyases;
Carbon-oxygen lyases;
Acting on phosphates
Sysname
(2E,6E)-farnesyl diphosphate lyase (cyclizing, (+)-alpha-santalene-forming)
Reaction(IUBMB)
(2E,6E)-farnesyl diphosphate = (+)-alpha-santalene + diphosphate [RN:R10733]
Reaction(KEGG)
R10733
Substrate
(2E,6E)-farnesyl diphosphate [CPD:C00448]
Product
(+)-alpha-santalene [CPD:C19736];
diphosphate [CPD:C00013]
Comment
The enzyme synthesizes a mixture of sesquiterpenoids from (2E,6E)-farnesyl diphosphate. As well as (+)-alpha-santalene, (-)-beta-santalene and (-)-exo-alpha-bergamotene are formed with traces of (+)-epi-beta-santalene. See EC 4.2.3.83 [(-)-beta-santalene synthase], and EC 4.2.3.81 [(-)-exo-alpha-bergamotene synthase]. cf. EC 4.2.3.50 alpha-santalene synthase [(2Z,6Z)-farnesyl diphosphate cyclizing]
