Entry
EC 3.4.19.7                 Enzyme
Name
N-formylmethionyl-peptidase;
(fMet)-releasing enzyme;
formylmethionine aminopeptidase
Class
Hydrolases;
Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases);
Omega peptidases
Reaction(IUBMB)
Release of an N-terminal, formyl-methionyl residue from a polypeptide
Comment
Highly specific for N-formylmethionyl peptides. Will not cleave methionyl peptides or N-formyl derivatives of amino acids other than methionine. Isolated from rat liver. Inhibited by heavy metals and activated by Cl-
